1) Shipping

Before you even think of setting up a store make sure you answer these few questions:

How will you ship the product?

Will you ship it from head office or will you ship from your vendor? This is one important question which you need to answer before you setup a store. Make sure you have planned it all before you start your store.  

What is the approximate delivery time?

In online business time is more valuable than money. So if your product doesn’t ship on time than it’s useless even if the customer paid premium for it. Ask your courier for the approximate time of delivery.

What about operation?

Will there a delivery slip along with your order or just a flyer? Will the address be printed on the package or your rider will call to take the address?
Will the rider call before the delivery?

2) Payment Options

There is nothing more frustrating than a lame mode of payment. Make it easy for customers to pay. Keep your system clean, secure and fast. Don’t be too messy, just a few simple payment methods can do the trick.  

3) Product Display & Marketing

Picture is worth a thousand words but in eCommerce a product description is worth an encyclopedia. Get that right and you have sold your product already. And use a picture that will make your customers want the product.

Even though there are 4 P’s of marketing but if you manage even just 2 P’s that are Product and Placement then you won half the battle. Do the marketing as aggressively as possible. Best form of marketing is done the customers themselves. Make their experience well and they will do marketing for you.

4) Extra Features

Google it and you will know that there are thousand other sites doing the same thing as you are doing so why customers will buy from you. What is the one thing that sets you apart from all? Just like Amazon with free add-ons, Zappos with 7 day return policy and BestBuy with economic pricing. What features are you offering that will make your customers buy from you?

On the whole don’t just run a site to make money, do it to serve a cause, do it because you too can make a difference and do it better than others.
